Anthropic's Revenue Surge and Software Displacement

Conviction: 75% · Horizon: 2Y · 2026-08-20
Frontier-lab AI is scaling fast enough to threaten traditional software economics

Anthropic went from first revenue in 2023 to a $9 billion run rate by the end of last year and has now generated $11.5 billion in a single quarter, overtaking OpenAI, with a stretch goal of $200 billion of revenue by 2028 and an already-reported adjusted profit. Most of that growth is developer-side embedding into other companies' software, which is a core reason the software industry faces so much uncertainty, even as collapsing inference costs remain a risk to the model.

Instrument Side Target Reason
NVDA Long We believe frontier labs already running at more than $10 billion of quarterly revenue, with stretch targets toward $200 billion within a few years, will keep demand for AI accelerators elevated even if some application-software vendors are disrupted.
